Progress but slow progress

Here's a quick sketch so far. Will post more progress throughout the night and day. So far, I am really digging this idea. Trying to go for a sci-fi 1950's deal with this concept art.

Edit: Here is an update

  1. Thanks Max, looking forward to talking through this with you tomorrow. At first glance, I would suggest a bit more area of brightness, possibly contrast, to help create a stronger sense of emphasis within the composition. It's a bit hard to make out the forms, and more separation would help to situate them within a gradated and detailed field. Another formal choice that would help is to establish a clearer role for foreground, mid, and background, perhaps playing around a bit more with scale. Unless I'm interpreting the image incorrectly, it appears that you have some real estate at the upper-left of the composition that might be useful in creating a sense of regression into distant perspectival space. Such would help to anchor your visual activity within a clear scale and context within the world that you're creating. Also, while greyscale might be a strong stylistic choice, minimal yet decisive moments of color might go a long way to help carve out your details. Thank you for sharing it, looking forward to discussing tomorrow!
