This course blog is where we communicate as a group, share responses to assignments, and post our work. You are required to publish posts according to assignments found on Moodle, and are encouraged to share images, make comments, and pose public questions throughout the semester.
Glad to see that you got this Exercise 2 in. From a technical standpoint, there is a lot of potential in a base image like this, with a monochromatic sky, vast foreground space to play with, and a sense of depth into space. What you have manipulated about it, however, feels quite rushed and without much conceptual intention. The idea to complicate the sky with cloud forms is strong, but the repetition of the same cloud form, albeit with slight scale changes, does not seem to engage the photographic reality of the original image. Repetition of form with the creative intention to rather emphasize the mechanization of organic material can be a very interesting impulse, however, it does not seem that you are intending to engage a discussion on mechanization in this way. Rather it might be more impacting to replace the sky with another, or litter the sky with cloud forms that contrast the sunny lighting of the rest of the landscape. Some of this same criticism applied to the inclusion of the kids and hopscotch markings—a particular inclusion that could relate nicely to the reality of the image if situated perspectivally in accordance with the original image. Much of these suggestions, Bri, would have come out of the wash if you had started the assignment when it was assigned and shared your progress along the way.
